Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Plumber (Motor Vehicle Operator) with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

• As a Plumber (Motor Vehicle Operator), you will perform the following duties which is not all inclusive list:
• Follow written instructions to perform plumbing tasks.
• Operate a pickup 3/4 ton truck to transport personnel, supplies and equipment to and from work sites.
• Perform minor maintenance such as adjusting replacing and adjusting mixing valves, repacking valves, and replacing valves and basic gauges.
• Perform testing and repair on back flow prevention devices.
• Modify plumbing pipes to use in repairs and/or installation when necessary.
• Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common repairing, and performing maintenance of plumbing systems in commercial and industrial buildings and assembling pipe sections, tubing, or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment; I can determine utility systems such as water and gas systems and read blueprints (building and utility) for location of lines, hot water circulation pumps and sump pumps; I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Works on parts of systems which are in hard to reach places. Is required to stand, stoop, band, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and places items weighing up to 40 points, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance. Is subject to strain from vibrations in operating a backhoe. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works primarily inside and on occasion outside, in all types of weather. Work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Is exposed to mud, water, bad smelling fumes. Is exposed to the possibility of infection from unsanitary worksites, and the possibility of cuts, scrapes, burns, broken bones, from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead; and the possibility of accidents when driving vehicles in all types of traffic and weather.
