Summary

You will serve as a INSPECTOR PRODUCTION OPERATIONS with Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. This position performs safety and environmental inspections of known or conventional and non-conventional oil, gas, sulphur and other mineral facilities and operations on the Outer Continenetal Shelf. GS-12 Step 1 $103,225 - Step 10 $134,195 First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Duties

  • This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Gulf of America Region (GOAR), District Field Operations, Lafayette District, Productions Ops Inspection Unit A, in Lafayette, LA . Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: 1. . Serves as the lead in training and in making recommendations for inspectors. Assists other inspectors as needed on complex inspection issues. 2. Conducts inspections of production measurement/verification, pipelines, site security activities and operations to ensure compliance with all BSEE and environmental regulations. This includes facilities with known safety and environmental problems or hazards, such as those which contain H2S and sulphur. 3. Maintains facilities compliance with safety and environmental requirements for production operations that include new/advanced systems and issues that regularly arise .4. Orders the shut-in of facilities, operations or parts of operations which pose an immediate threat to personnel, property, or the environment. 5. Prepares incidents of noncompliance issued, ensuring they are properly prepared, completed and properly references the National Potential Item of Non-Compliance (PINC) List. 6. Completes BSEE Form 182 and clearly explains violations and enforcement actions to operators. The Bureau of Safety & Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during and emergency or natural disaster. Salary InformationGS-12; Step 1: $103,225 to Step 10: $134,195 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 09/09/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the work schedule requirement as the service dates will be reflected. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. -AND- Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level: Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1. Conducts inspections of production measurement/verification, pipeline, site security activities and operations to ensure compliance with all BSEE and environmental regulations.2. Assisting the Lead Inspector in coordinating inspections and flight plans.3. Prepare and issue incidents of Noncompliance, properly reference the National Potential of Indicators of Non-Compliance (PINC) List, complete BSEE Form 1832, and clearly explain violations and enforcement actions to operators. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
