Summary

The Podiatrist-Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS), Specialty Care will provide leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for all specialty care services.

Duties

• Located in the Rogue Valley, White City allows easy access to Metro-area of Medford while remaining engrossed with nature. White City is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Oregon, in the Rogue Valley. It is about nine miles north of Medford and 34 miles north of the California border. Enjoy the scenic drives to either Crater Lake, Oregon's only National Park, and to the mountain resort Lake of the Woods. Relocation/or Recruitment Incentives: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates Permanent Change of Station (PCS): May be authorized for highly qualified candidates Duties include but not limited to: Obtains, reviews, and interprets medical and podiatric histories. Performs comprehensive podiatric and lower extremity physical examinations. Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic studies (e.g., imaging, vascular testing, laboratory). Diagnoses conditions affecting the lower extremities, including skin, bone, joint, vascular, and neurological pathologies. Develops, discusses, and implements treatment plans for acute and chronic lower extremity conditions. Manages lower extremity wounds, infections, and complications of diabetes and peripheral vascular disease. Provides care for foot and ankle trauma, sports injuries, biomechanical disorders, and deformities. Performs and supervises minor procedures and major surgical interventions of the foot, ankle, and related structures, according to clinical privileging. Administers local and regional anesthesia. Debridement of wounds, excision of skin and soft tissue masses, bunionectomy, hammertoe correction, osteotomies, arthroplasties, amputations, and other podiatric procedures within granted privileges. Prescribes medications (including controlled substances), orthotics, prosthetics, and durable medical equipment in accordance with state and federal law, and VA policy. Provides consultations within scope of practice to other providers. Refers patients to other medical or surgical specialties, rehabilitation, orthopedics, prosthetics, or social support services as indicated. Completes timely, accurate, and comprehensive documentation in the electronic health record (EHR). Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with VA, federal, and state regulations. Supervises and mentors service chiefs, line managers, and other specialty care staff as designated. Supports recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of specialty care personnel. Guides quality assurance, safety, and performance improvement initiatives for specialty clinics. Monitors compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Oversees resource allocation, budgeting, equipment planning, and staff recruitment as needed for specialty clinics. Fosters multidisciplinary collaboration with primary care, mental health, and allied health professionals. Participates in relevant facility and VISN committees and workgroups. Provides teaching and mentorship to trainees, residents, or fellows as applicable. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Additional Requirement: Demonstrated leadership experience within a specialty care service line, including strategic planning, oversight of clinical programs, and effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and manage clinical staff across multiple specialties, with experience in recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and fostering a high reliability team. Strong background in quality improvement, patient safety, and performance measurement, including participation in facility or VISN-level committees, accreditation preparedness, and implementation of evidence based practices. Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining clinical policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance in alignment with VA, federal, and state requirements. Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice within the relevant specialty, including comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, and procedure/surgical care consistent with credentialing and privileging standards. Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) documentation, clinical workflows, and utilization of data to drive operational and clinical decision making. Experience leading or supporting multidisciplinary collaboration with primary care, mental health, surgical services, ancillary services, and allied health professionals to optimize access, care coordination, and patient outcomes. Commitment to professional development, continuing education, and engagement in teaching or mentoring trainees within an academic or clinical training environment.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Requirements

Education

Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. (1) Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine and surgery, approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education of the American Podiatry Medical Association in the year in which the degree was granted. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405 for a podiatric graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
