Dietician (Specialist)

Summary

About the Position: This position is in the Nutrition Services Department, Clinical Nutrition Division. This position will serve as the primary weekend coverage dietitian, with scheduled work hours two weekends per month. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

• Assess medical nutritional needs of adult inpatients, covering a variety of disease states.
• Provide independent and comprehensive medical nutrition therapy to include in-depth nutritional assessment, calculation of nutritional needs, monitoring, and evaluating nutrition interventions.
• Design and recommend specific feeding regimens, including enteral and parenteral nutrition support using current published standards or practice.
• Counsel patients and families on complex feeding regimens.
• Serve as a preceptor for clinical nutrition rotations for dietetic interns enrolled in military and civilian programs.
• Collaborate with diet technicians, Patient Room Services, and multi-disciplinary services throughout the hospital.

Basic Requirement for Dietician (Specialist): Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in the field of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA)) for dietitians or nutritionists. OR Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0630 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing medical nutrition therapy through nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, or nutrition monitoring; and educating patients or staff on topics of nutrition. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
