Summary
You will serve as a Administrative Support Assistant (OA) (Seasonal) with the National Park Service in the Administration and Business Services Division for Great Smoky Mountains National Park located at Gatlinburg, TN. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Great Smoky Mountains National Park is October 2026 to July 2027, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 2026
Duties
- Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Supports the Commercial Services Office with the issuance of special park use permits. Responsible for completing administrative and clerical processes for office services and/or information management. Performs accounting, budget, or financial management support duties related to recurring or standardized transactions such as purchase orders, payroll transactions, travel vouchers, charge card reconciliations, utility payments, etc. Within delegated authority, purchases supplies, equipment, and services for the unit utilizing a purchase card, or a blanket purchase agreement under micro-purchase authority.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/15/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. If you do not provide evidence that you possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified. You must be able to type 40 words per minute. Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level: You must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level. Examples of specialized experience may include: performing clerical administrative duties such as processing mail, drafting correspondence, performing records management; computer software knowledge or experience in data entry, and customer service. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university . You must include transcripts. -OR- Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Requirements
Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.
