Nurse (Clinical Coach)

Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide a structured clinical coach preceptor program to support delivery of orientation that ensures new nurses receive adequate preparation to function independently and to facilitate their transition to assigned departments. This position is located in the Emergency Department at the Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, NM. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Duties

• Total Compensation Package - Check out IHS's outstanding total compensation package for this job: Registered Nurse Total Compensation | Pay (ihs.gov) Facilitates the transition of a preceptee to assigned department/unit by providing an atmosphere conducive to the professional growth of both the coordinator and the preceptee. Assesses the preceptee's past experience to determine learning need and learning styles. Develops goals and objectives progressively in collaboration with the preceptee. Assists the preceptee in organizing and prioritizing. Assists with patient care in the assigned department or unit. Closely observes patients for conditions that may require emergency measures; recognizes, identifies and interprets serious clinical situations; exercises sound judgement interpreting observations to the physician, provides consultation and guidance to nursing staff as needed in dealing with complicated or critical patients. Coordinates patient care activities and support activities to assure smooth facility operations during weekend, day, evening, or night tours with the charge nurse/nurse supervisor. Possesses qualities of adaptability and diplomacy for effectiveness in establishing good, interpersonal relationships and the respect of associates.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education - A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure- For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Serving as a clinical coach preceptor and ensuring new nurse staff receive adequate preparation to function independently and to facilitate their transition to the specified units.
