About the Position: The Supervisory Firefighter (Basic Life Support/Hazardous Materials Technician) directs day-to-day operations, planning and organizing firefighter operations to include technical and administrative supervision of the firefighter forces. This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date. Duties

• Direct the day-to-day operations of firefighting crews providing fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous material and emergency medical response.
• Control operations at the site of any hazardous material spill or incident involving hazardous material.
• Run comprehensive fire prevention training, safety, and hazardous material handling programs by planning, implementing, reviewing, and evaluating activities.
• Evaluate performance of subordinate personnel.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Providing oversight of personnel performing firefighting duties; 2. Directing the placement of firefighting equipment and personnel to ensure maximum utilization in fire control operations; 3. Overseeing fire alarm communication center operations to ensure all firefighting equipment and personnel are dispatch as required; and 4. Performing required maintenance on rescue tools, ground ladders, fire hoses, ropes, harnesses, and hardware to maintain operability. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M AND a State and National Registry EMT Certification Card indicating a future expiration date when applicable. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Communication Hazardous Material Response Fire Prevention, Inspection and Code Compliance Managing Human Resources Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
