Summary
About the position: This position is located at the Industrial Laundry Facility, RAF Alconbury, United Kingdom. It offers 0 guaranteed hours per week and the incumbent may be required to work 0-40 hours per week, as needed. The position requires the ability to frequently lift and carry items weighing up to and over 50 pounds.
Duties
- Loads, unloads, and transports clean and dirty laundry to and from the laundry facility and customer facilities in a government owned vehicle. Operates the delivery truck's powerlift system. Receives soiled laundry from base and customer facilities. Separates laundry into classes, counts and records numbers of each article, and documents accordingly. Loads washers, selects cycle and wash time. Removes laundry at the end of the cycle and transfers to dryers. Selects dryer cycle and time settings. Removes items from dryer and folds or prepares for pressing. Items selected for pressing are processed on the mechanical presser, so care must be taken to avoid scorching or burning the items. Assists in maintaining records of laundry received, processed, and returned. Makes calls as directed for delivery and collection of laundry products. Ensures cleanliness of washers, dryers, sinks, laundry carts, and the delivery van. Ensures lint traps are cleaned regularly. Performs other housekeeping duties as needed. In accordance with the Status of Forces Agreement between the US and the UK, British citizens may not apply for US NAF positions; however, they may be eligible to apply for local national positions on base. Dual US/UK citizens may apply for US NAF positions if they have a valid US passport. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience (MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR RESUME): Must have at least six months of experience driving a flatbed-type or delivery truck/van; and Must have experience operating washers and dryers, to include setting proper heat and time for specific loads of laundry; and Must have experience using a mechanical laundry presser.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
