Summary

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a PERMANENT position as a Plumber with the Directorate of Public Works, Fort Leavenworth, KS.

Duties

  • As a Plumber, you will perform the following duties which is not all inclusive list:
  • Plans and performs work based on oral instructions, preventive maintenance programs, work orders, emergency calls, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and layout sketches.
  • Plans the sequence of work and determines the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials needed to complete assigned projects.
  • Performs assigned plumbing work independently from start to completion while following established procedures and quality standards.
  • Uses sound judgment to identify and resolve routine issues and refers unusual or difficult problems to the supervisor.
  • Works with minimal supervision and is responsible for completing assignments efficiently, safely, and accurately.
  • Ensures completed work complies with instructions, applicable standards, and acceptable workmanship requirements.
  • Performs work that may be subject to spot checks during the project and upon completion to ensure quality and compliance.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Plumber ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including making repairs and/or installation of water closets, tubs and showers. Work from verbal instructions only. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Work involves considerable standing, stooping and bending. The employee is required to work on ladders and scaffolds which frequently involve working in uncomfortable or awkward positions. Frequently lifts and carries materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. The employee is exposed to mud and water, and is subject to infection from unsanitary work sites. Injury may occur from use of power and hand tools and occasional use of caustic soda and hot lead.
