Summary

The position is located in Bay Pines, Florida at the CW Bill Young Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The incumbent serves as a journeyman electrician of the Electric Shop under the Engineering Service and reports to the Electric Shop Supervisor.

Duties

• Major Duties: Installs, modifies repairs, maintains, trouble-shoots, tests, and loads new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, hand drawn sketches, electrical manufacturers maintenance and repair manuals. Responds to customer reported issues by tests or trouble-shooting and independently determines an appropriate course of action. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD04799A Physical Requirements: Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platform, hydraulic lifts, and other hard to reach places. To complete work, incumbent will stand, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The incumbent must lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 40 pounds. May also have to lift or move heavy objects over 200 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside, including in bad weather. Work may need to be completed in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy and bad smelling. Work may require being at a height of over 50 feet or more, and in close quarters such as manholes or attics. They are occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, rotary devices such as electrical motors, sharp edges on metal equipment or parts and pointed objects. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.

Qualifications

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
